FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a cottage food operation?

As a cottage food operation, we are licensed to make and sell baked goods out of a residential address. We hold the necessary permits and health code certifications so that you can feel confident about the food you’re receiving, while supporting a small local bakery!

How do bake sales work?

Bake sales are held on set dates so that you can enjoy Opal Bakeshop as a pop-up bakery for the day! Preorders will open online one week in advance and can be picked up anytime during the bake sale. All baked goods that aren’t spoken for through preorders will be available to purchase for walkups.

Can I place an order outside of a specific bake sale?

Of course! We’re always open for custom orders, whether that be a special occasion cake, an array of breakfast pastries, or a personalized dessert bar. Shoot us an email so we can chat about how to work together.

What forms of payment do you accept?

All orders placed through the website can be paid for by credit or debit card. Walkup sales of pastries during bake sales can be paid for by cash or Venmo.

What if I need to cancel my order?

Preorders for regular bake sales must be cancelled at least 48 hours in advance in order to receive a refund.  Custom orders and holiday orders must be cancelled at least one week in advance in order to receive a refund. In some cases, your custom order may require further advance notice to cancel, but we’ll always confirm this with you during the ordering process. If you need to cancel an order at any time, just send an email to info@opalbakeshop.com.

What if I forget to pick up my order?

Unfortunately, part of running a small operation means limited flexibility for cancellations and refunds! Although we won’t be able to refund your order, don’t hesitate to reach out and we’d be happy to work together to find another way of getting your order to you.
